Flowers Floating in Herbal Tea

The answer to that question would be YES!

But, not the way you may be thinking. If you were to use Fresh Herbs or Flowers they could get moldy in the soap. (That’s not something you want to happen.)

So then the question becomes,

what types of herbs or rose petals can be used?

It’s best to use DRIED Herbs and Flowers. Depending on which dried herbs or flower you use will effect the outcome of the soap.

Here are some examples:

(If you have any questions feel to contact me, I love questions:) )

When using dried herbs keep in mind the soap can become scratchy!

1. Alkanet Root Powder – Herb (Will give the soap a light to deep purplish color depending on how much is used)

Usage : Add 1/2 tsp per pound of soap or make an infusion 1Tbsp per 4 oz. of oil to infuse (overnight to a week is best)

Then add 1 Tbsp. (strained) infusion to color to approximately 1.5 pounds of   soap.

Here’s a soap made with Alkanet root, It’s called Whimsical.

2. Annatto Seed Powder - pulp of a tropical fruit (Pale yellow to orange)

Usage: Add 1/2 tsp per pound of soap or make an infusion 1 to 2 Tbsp per 4 oz. of oil to infuse (overnight to a week is best or you could heat it up.)  Then add 1 Tbsp. or more (strained) infusion to color to approximately 1.5 pounds of   soap. The more you use the stronger the color. But, be sure not to use too much. It’s a fairly strong colorant.

3. Parsley Powder – (extremely pale green to green)

Usage: Add 1 tsp per pound of soap at trace. There is no need to infuse in oil.

4. Rose Buds – This one is simple. Just add a sprinkle to the top of the soap.

When you add herbs or rose petals to soap do they maintain any of their health benefits or is it mostly just for visual beauty at that point?
